Big South Conference Names Chauvin Women's Field Athlete of the Week

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb graduate student Krista Chauvin was selected Big South Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week Wednesday morning by the league office, following a record-breaking effort.
Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass. / Seekonk HS) smashed her own school-record in the hemmer throw Friday afternoon, achieving a distance of 57.78 meters (189'7") to win the 2015 Winthrop/adidas Invitational.
Her distance was more than three meters better than her previous record, set seven days prior at the Charlotte 49er Invitational and is the fifth-best throw in Big South Conference history.
Chauvin topped her previous personal best as well, which was previously 57.57 meters at UMass- Dartmouth – where she was named conference Field Athlete of the Year outdoors in 2013 and earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in the hammer with a fifth-place finish.
Chauvin's distance Friday afternoon ranks as the 36th-best overall in NCAA Division I this season and as the 11th-best in the NCAA Division I East Region. She has the top two distances in the Big South Conference this outdoor season.
Chauvin and the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to High Point, N.C., this weekend for the Vert Klassic Meet on April 3-4.
