COMPLETE RESULTS (PDF)

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb's women finished fourth out of 16 teams and the men finished eighth, as both squads wrapped up the two-day Catamount Classic on Saturday night.

The GWU women finished with 58 team points, just off the pace of ETSU (3rd) and Winthrop (2nd). Host Western Carolina tallied 326 team points over two days to capture the team crown.

The women's 4x100m relay team of Merideth Byl, Sarah Perkins, Ivy Harris and Jordan Davis finished third on Saturday, scoring six team points with a time of 48.65 seconds.

Davis enjoyed a strong day on the track, finishing fourth in the women's 200 meter dash with a personal-record time of 24.87 seconds and five team points.

The former Arabia Mountain (Ga.) High star took fourth in the women's 100 meter dash, breaking the finish line in 12.48 seconds, just two one-hundredths of a second out of third position in a tight race.

Perkins was another busy sprinter for Gardner-Webb Saturday, scoring points in the women's 400 meter dash. The Gorham, Maine, standout finished seventh with a time of 59.54 seconds.

Sarah Mitchell carried the banner for the Gardner-Webb women's throws contingent on Saturday, finishing third in the discus with a toss of 41.94 meters (137'07"). It set a new personal-record mark for Mitchell, which saw her finish less than three meters off the lead.

Mitchell posted another top-5 effort in the shot put, finishing fourth with a distance of 13.08 meters (42'11").

Megan Melton and Elise Mofatt each scored in the pole vault Saturday. Melton finished fourth with a height of 3.45 meters and Moffatt took sixth by clearing 3.30 meters.

Gardner-Webb's men finished eighth with 22.50 team combined points Friday and Saturday.

Sophomore Jordan Smith's outdoor PR of 15.25 meters in the shot put provided another highlight for the GWU throwing corps. Smith's distance placed him second in the event, just ahead of a trio of Western Carolina competitors.

Malik Crawford narrowly missed a personal record time in the men's 100 meter dash, finishing eight in a time of 11.11 seconds. Crawford's PR in the event is 11.10 seconds, set earlier this season at the Charlotte 49er Classic.

Both squads will compete in Atlanta, Ga., next weekend as part of the 2015 Georgia Tech Invitational (April 17-18).
