Gardner-Webb Finishes Fifth at 2015 Big South Women's Golf Championship

GEORGETOWN, S.C.- At the conclusion of the 2015 Big South Women's Golf Championship the Gardner-Webb women's golf team finished in fifth-place overall in Georgetown, S.C. at the DeBordieu Club.

Gardner-Webb battling the inclement weather the entire Championship shot a combined total team score of 644, +68, finishing five strokes ahead of Longwood University. The host school Coastal Carolina took home top honors shooting 614, +38 for the Championship, breaking away from second-place Campbell by 16 strokes.

Individually Gardner-Webb had three top-25 finishers, which included two top-10's and a very impressive 36-holes, in spite of the weather, from Sophomore Sarah Bertram who finished in a tie for fifth-place overall earning her a spot on the All-Championship Team.

Bertram in her second round shot an 80, +8, to follow up her first round of 75 to finish with a total score of 155, +11, for the Championship tying with two others for fifth. The finish was Bertram's best finish this season.

Fellow Sophomore Taylor Dodson tabbed her seventh top-10 of the year via a second round 81 combined with a first round 77 to finish with a 36-hole score of 158, +14, finishing in a tie for 10th-place overall.

Courtney Yanch the sophomore from Barrie, Ontario, Canada carded a second round score of 84, which she added to an opening round of 79 to finish in a tie for 19th with an overall score of 163, +19.

Juniors Mary Katherine Donovan and Tessy Tuschen finished up their play at the Championship with rounds of 85 and 91 respectively. Donovan placed in a tie for 30th overall with a score of 168, +24, and Tuschen finished in 41st-place with a two-round score of 178, +34.

Host school Coastal Carolina also took home the top honors individually as junior Lena Schaeffner medaled at this years' Big South Championship shooting rounds of 73 and 74 to finish +3 for the Championship. She beat fellow teammate Malene Krolboll Hansen by one stroke.

The scoring average for the Championship, due inclement weather overshadowing most of it, was 81.88 almost 10 strokes over par.

T10- Taylor Dodson– 77 & 81 = 158  (+14)

T19- Courtney Yanch– 79 & 84 = 163 (+19)

T30- Mary Katherine Donovan – 83 & 85 = 168 (+24)

41- Tessy Tuschen – 87 & 91 = 178 (+34)
