ASHEVILLE, N.C. – No. 1 seed Charleston Southern utilized two doubles victories and three straight-set singles wins this morning to defeat the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team 4-0, in the Quarterfinals of 2015 Big South Women's Tennis Championship in Asheville, N.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to get anything rolling their way this morning as they dropped two doubles positions early on in the match. Junior Rokia Sacko and sophomore Teodora Stanciu losing 8-3 at No. 1 doubles to Sidorenko/Cooper of Charleston Southern, followed by freshman Sarah Rieckmann and sophomore Catherine White dropping their No. 3 doubles decision 8-2 against Plach/Cloessner.
The Buccaneers used the momentum from doubles play to press on and clinch the match with three singles wins right out of the gate. Senior No. 1 singles player Yasmin Doost was the first to fall as she was on the losing side of 6-1, 6-2 decision against Marketa Placha.
Rieckmann would then fall at No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-1, playing against Charleston Southern's Sophie Cloessner. Rieckmann's doubles mate White then took a tough 6-2, 6-1 defeat at No. 5 singles to clinch the match for Charleston Southern.
With the win this morning Charleston Southern will advance to tomorrow's Semifinals where they will faceoff against the No. 4 seed Liberty University.
