
Men's Tennis Honored With Host of Postseason Accolades

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Four Gardner-Webb men's tennis players were honored this afternoon as the league office announced the Big South Conference Men's Tennis annual award winners in Charlotte, N.C.
Senior Ernest Alberch and junior Nikita Zverkov were named to the Doubles All-Conference team this afternoon. The two combined for 5-2 record at the No. 1 doubles position with their only losses coming against the top two doubles teams in the conference, Coastal Carolina and Winthrop. Overall the two compiled an 8-6 record at the No. 1 doubles position for the 2015 season proving to be a main fixture for Gardner-Webb.
Also honored today was redshirt senior Korhan Ates who was named the conference Flight No. 4 Champion. Playing in his last year of eligibility Ates compiled a conference record of 7-2 at the No. 4 singles slot. Ates who played for Gardner-Webb from 2010-12 before transferring to UAB and returned to GWU in the fall of 2013 has compiled an overall record of 22-20 in his two stints for Gardner-Webb.
The final Runnin' Bulldog to be honored this afternoon was senior Brendan Dempsey who shared the No. 5 Flight Co-Champion honors with Danny Bruce of Presbyterian. Dempsey finished the season with a conference record of 6-3 at No. 5 singles with an overall record of 12-9 on the year, while Dempsey has compiled an impressive 53-26 record over his four seasons as a Runnin' Bulldog.
Dempsey was also honored this afternoon as a member of the 2015 Big South All-Academic Team for his hard work in the classroom during his collegiate career. Dempsey an Accounting major has collected a 3.76 GPA over his tenure as a Student-Athlete at GWU.
The Gardner-Webb Men's tennis team will take the court in postseason action tomorrow morning at 9:00 am when they will faceoff against Longwood University in the 2015 Big South Championship hosted at the Asheville Racquet Club in Asheville, N.C.
