NINETY SIX S.C.- Sophomore Vincent Blanchette finished off an impressive opening round of 68, -4, and fired a second round score of 71, -1, placing him in a tie for second individually at -5 under par, and helping Gardner-Webb to a third-place finish after two rounds at the 2015 Big South Men's Golf Championship.
Playing at The Patriot at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, S.C. the Runnin' Bulldogs as a team fired rounds of 283 and 289 to finish -4 under par three shots behind second-place Liberty and seven shots off the pace of the leaders Coastal Carolina University.
After Blanchette's fine performance and current placing of second one shot behind the leader Blake Carter of Longwood, GWU's freshman Jake Kennedy carded rounds of 71 and 72 leaving him in a tie for 13th at -1 under par.
One stroke off the pace of Kennedy is senior stalwart for Gardner-Webb Matt Yelverton shooting an opening round of 70 and second round of 74 combing for a two day score of 144, even-par.
Rounding out the Runnin' Bulldog lineups over the round and a half of play today were redshirt sophomore Chris Jones and freshman Aaron Thomas. Jones shot rounds of 74 and 72 finishing his 36-holes of play +2 placing him in tie for 22nd, while Thomas shot a first round of 75 before taking a tough round of 80 in the afternoon leaving him at +11, tied for 44th overall.
