GWU Senior Matt Yelverton Honored as 2015 Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

NINETY SIX S.C.- Gardner-Webb Senior and men's golfer Matt Yelverton was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the Big South following the conclusion of the final round of the Big South Men's Golf Championship.
The lone senior on GWU's staff this year carries a perfect 4.0 GPA in the very challenging field of Biology.
Yelverton over his time at Gardner-Webb, from 2011-2015, has appeared in all 44 tournaments that the Runnin' Bulldogs have taken part in. In his 44 appearances for Yelverton has compiled over 15 top-25 finishes, including nine top-10 finishes, for the Runnin' Bulldogs showcasing an enormous amount of consistency over the entirety of his career.
Head Coach Tee Burton had this to say about Yelverton, "Matt is everything a coach could want in a player. He is a hard worker in all apsects of life. I can't not imagine a more deserving person for Scholar-Athlete of the Year. It's been been a blessing to have coached and had him apart of this program over these past four years."
Away from the golf course and classroom Yelverton is a member of the Alpha Chi Honors Society, the Tri Beta National Biological Honor Society and also serves as a member on the Gardner-Webb Student Athletic Advisory Committee.
Yelverton's determination and dedication on the golf course and in the classroom truly embody what it means to be a student-athlete.
This afternoon Yelverton finished his collegiate career with class, shooting an even par 72 combined with rounds of 70 and 74 to finish the Big South Championship with a total score of 216, even-par, placing him 14th overall for the tournament.
