It all would come down to the No. 5 singles slot to decide the match. Sophomore Catherine White who has been a stalwart for the Runnin' Bulldogs this season took home the first set 7-6(5) against Tyler Baker and continued to fight hard but fell 6-2, 6-2, in the last match to finish which clinched the match for Charlotte.
Head Coach Jim Corn had this to say about today's match, "That was some great college tennis out there today. Those are the matches you really love to coach. We did not come out with the win but I'm still incredibly proud of the young ladies and saw a lot of good things from them in the match."
In singles play the early loses for Gardner-Webb came at the No. 6 and No. 4 positions as both sophomore Mary Walker Mixon and freshman Sarah Rieckmann dropped their matches 6-2, 6-0, respectively.
