UNC Greensboro Rallies Past Gardner-Webb, 6-2, Thursday Night

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Patrick Graham's two-run home run in the second inning gave Gardner-Webb an early lead, but UNC Greensboro plated six unanswered runs to take the lead for good in a 6-2 win Thursday night.

Gardner-Webb (21-31) will play its 2015 season finale on Friday night, closing out a home-and-home series in John Henry Moss Stadium/Bill Masters Field against UNC Greensboro (23-24) at 6:00 pm.

The Runnin' Bulldogs used the long ball to go on top Thursday night, as Jacob Walker singled with two outs in the second inning and Graham belted a 2-2 pitch to left for his team-leading fourth long ball of the season.

UNCG starter Ryan Clark worked out of that inning and settled in, finishing his day after 5.1 innings of work with five strikeouts and only two hits and two runs allowed. The Spartans' bullpen took over from there, allowing just one hit – a two-out double from Collin Thacker in the sixth – the rest of the way.

Walker (2-5) was tagged with the mound loss for Gardner-Webb, working 4.0 innings and allowing five earned runs on seven hits. The big sophomore, who is expected to make a dent in the weekend rotation next season for the Runnin' Bulldogs, fanned three batters on the night.

Wil Sellers (2.0 IP), Andrew Massey (1.0 IP) and Bradley Hallman (1.0 IP) finished the game on the mound for Gardner-Webb, with only one unearned run allowed down the stretch.

Walker, Graham and Thacker had Gardner-Webb's three hits.

Clark (7-6) was the mound winner for UNC Greensboro, with three other arms finishing out the game. Tyler Frazier fanned five over the final three innings to pick up his third save of the season.

The Spartans had 10 hits, with Zac Macaneney, Hunter King, Eric Kalbfleisch and Tyler Long collecting two each. Long belted a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the second inning, cutting Gardner-Webb's early lead in half.
