Gardner-Webb Wrestling Claims Second Top-5 Finish In NWCA National Academic Rankings

MANHEIM, Pa. – Gardner-Webb continued its excellence in the classroom, claiming its second top-4 spot in the National Wresting Coaches Association Division I All-Academic rankings.
Head coach Daniel Elliott's team finished ranked No. 4 nationally in 2014-2015, joining only Harvard and Brown as programs who have earned a top-5 finish in each of the past two seasons.
The Runnin' Bulldogs posted a 3.352 GPA as determined by the ranking system and were the top-ranked Southern Conference program. GWU finished with the nation's third-best GPA in 2013-2014.
The team's grade point average is determined using a system that includes 12 student-athletes from each program. A total of 10 spots were made up of wrestlers who participated in the conference tournament or NCAA qualifier event.
Eastern Michigan claimed the top team honor in 2014-2015 with a 3.382 GPA. Harvard (3.372) and American (3.358) rounded out the top-3. Gardner-Webb (4th), Brown (5th), Duke (6th), Bucknell (7th), Stanford (7th), SIU Edwardsville (9th) and Minnesota (10th) rounded out the top-10.
