Chauvin Takes Stage Saturday At 2015 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Gardner-Webb throws standout Krista Chauvin will step into action on Saturday at the 2015 NCAA East Preliminary Championships, with the women's hammer competition set to begin at Noon.

Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass./UMass-Dartmouth) has made a profound impact on the GWU program in her first and only season on campus. The graduate transfer is no stranger to NCAA-level competition, having earned NCAA Division III All-America honors with a fifth-place finish at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in La Crosse, Wisc.

So far in 2015, Chauvin has broken Gardner-Webb's hammer throw record four times, earning All-Big South honors at the 2015 Big South Conference Outdoor Championships with her top mark of 59.23 meters.

That mark is good for 23rd best among NCAA East Region competitors heading into Saturday's action.

Should Chauvin qualify for the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon (June 10-13), she would be the first female student-athlete to do so at the Division I level for Gardner-Webb.

Former Gardner-Webb thrower Alex Young qualified for indoor and outdoor nationals last season, and former pole vaulter Elliott Haynie did so indoors in 2008.
