EUGENE, Oregon – Gardner-Webb hammer standout Krista Chauvin will take the stage Thursday afternoon at 4:30 pm EDT at the 2015 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships.

Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass. / UMass-Dartmouth) will become the first woman in program history to compete at the Division I Championships when she steps in the cage at historic Hayward Field. She joins former men's thrower Alex Young (2014) and former pole vaulter Elliott Haynie (2008) as the lone participants at the national level for Gardner-Webb since its move to NCAA Division I.

Chauvin will compete in the first of two flight of Thursday's hammer competition, one of 24 total competitors in the event.

The graduate student is no stranger to national competition herself, having earned All-America status at the 2013 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships with a fifth-place finish in the hammer – accomplished at UMass-Dartmouth.

Chauvin qualified for this week's big stage with her 10th-place finish at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in late May, throwing 57.95 meters in Jacksonville, Fla. Her top mark on the season – a throw of 59.23 meters at the Big South Championships – is Gardner-Webb's school record in the event.

Chauvin broke Gardner-Webb's school record four different times in 2015 – her first season with the program. She earned All-Big South honors in the hammer at the 2015 Outdoor Championships in High Point, N.C., finishing third.

ESPN3 (WatchESPN.com) and ESPNU are providing coverage of Thursday's action, beginning at 1:00 pm EDT on ESPN3 and 3:00 pm EDT on ESPNU.
