June 02, 2015 | Softball
HIGH POINT- Three Gardner-Webb softball players were named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Assoication All-State teams, as freshman Rachel Cumiskey was named to the first team , and senior Kellie Beres and junior Scarlett Harris garnered second team honors, announced the NCCSIA Tuesday afternoon.
In just her first season playing for the Runnin' Bulldogs, Cumiskey belted eight home rums, and led the team and ranked ninth in the Big South Conference with 35 RBI. The eight home runs for Cumsiskey were the second most by a Gardner-Webb freshman in the division I era (2000-Pres). The freshman catcher batted .333 for the season and led the team in conference games with a .589 slugging percentage.
Beres put together a stellar season during her last collegiate season for the Runnin' Bulldogs, setting career-bests in hits (66), triples (17), walks (13), and on-base percentage.
The senior outfielder lead the team and ranked second in the conference with a .405 batting average, including a .437 mark in conference play.
During the 2015 season, Beres put together a 21-game hitting streak, and reached base safely in a remarkable 27 straight games. The First-Team All-Confrence selection, Beres led the team and was a menace on the base-paths for opponents, notching 13 stolen bases, and was caught stealing just three times on the year.
Harris, played in all 50 games during the 2015 season, playing all but three games at first base. The junior infielder came into her own in her third season playing for the Runnin' Bulldogs, setting career-highs in every offensive category.
A fixture in the middle of the order, Harris led the team with nine home runs, drove in 32 RBI, and also pitched in scoring 17 runs. The junior first baseman was stellar in the field all season long for the Runnin' Bulldogs, as she led the team with a .990 fielding percentage, committing just four errors.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will look to start a new era in GWU softball, as they will play the 2016 in the brand new Brinkley Softball Stadium.
