Puerto Rico Trip Highlights 2015-16 Women's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule
June 26, 2015 | Women's Basketball
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's basketball team will be taking part in the 2015 Puerto Rico Classic, highlighting a demanding 2015-16 non-conference schedule.
Gardner-Webb will play seven of its 12 non-conference games in Paul Porter Arena, including four of its first five games to open the season. The Dogs will open the season on the road for a second straight season, when they face ACC powerhouse North Carolina. This past year, UNC finished with a 27-10 overall record and advanced to the Elite Eight. This will be the fourth time GWU has faced the Tar Heels, and the first since the 2011-12 season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return home three days later for the first of a four-game home stand when they host Montreat College in their home-opener on Nov. 17.
GWU will take on local rival Wofford (Nov. 19) before it hosts UNC-Greensboro (Nov. 24) for its last game before the Thanksgiving break. The Runnin' Bulldogs were victorious last season against the Terriers, which was their second consecutive victory at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
After the annual turkey day celebration, Gardner-Webb welcomes West Coast Conference opponent Pacific to Boiling Springs, for the first-ever matchup between the two schools. Pacific compiled a 21-10 record last season and earned a berth in the WNIT.
Gardner-Webb will plays its first two conference games to begin the month of December, hosting Liberty (Dec. 2) and taking the short trip to Rock Hill S.C. to face Winthrop (Dec. 5).
After a 10-day break, the Dogs welcome Kennesaw State (Dec. 15) to Paul Porter Arena, before they depart for San Juan, Puerto Rico to play in the Puerto Rico Classic.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will play three games in the U.S. territory against some tough competition in Western Michigan (Dec. 19), Southern Methodist (Dec. 20), and Arizona (Dec. 21).
GWU completes its non-conference schedule on New Years Eve, welcoming Bluefield College to Boiling Springs, to ring in 2016.
