Women's Track Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La.- The Gardner-Webb women's track and field team, along with Krista Chauvin garnered recognition for their work in the classroom, earning a spot on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team (USTFCCCA).
A total of 224 women's teams earned the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or higher. The Gardner-Webb women's track and field team compiled a 3.16 cumulative GPA to earn a spot on the All-Academic team for the third consecutive year and the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were one of four schools from the Big South conference to receive the academic distinction.
Individually, Chauvin was honored for her hard work in the classroom after posting a perfect 4.00 perfect GPA in her first year of graduate school. In her one season at GWU, Chauvin became the first woman in Gardner-Webb history to compete at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships, joining former men's hammer thrower Alex Young (2014) and former pole vaulter Elliott Haynie (2008) as the lone participants at the national level for Gardner-Webb since its move to NCAA Division I.
A native of Seekonk, Mass, Chauvin wrapped up her lone season competing at Gardner-Webb as a two-sport All-Big South Conference selection. She was a second-team choice in women's soccer after helping the Runnin' Bulldogs to a significant level of improvement during the fall as a goalkeeper.
Prior to joining the Gardner-Webb programs, Chauvin earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in Track & Field, finishing fifth in the hammer throw at the 2013 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
