
Women's Soccer Selected Seventh In Big South Conference Preseason Poll

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Gardner-Webb was selected seventh in the Big South Conference women's soccer preseason poll by the league's head coaches, announced the league office Tuesday afternoon.
Defending regular-season champion Liberty University was selected as the preseason favorite, collecting nine of the 11 first-place votes and 119 total points. The Flames also garnered an additional honor, as goalkeeper Holly Van Noord was selected the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
High Point, winner of last season's conference tournament and the recipient of the Big South's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament was chosen second followed by Coastal Carolina, Radford, and Campbell to round out the preseason top five. The Panthers received one first-place vote totaling 106 points and Coastal captured the final first-place vote from the conference's 11 head coaches.
Campbell redshirt forward Ashley Clark was selected as the Preseason Attacking Player of the Year.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return eight starters from a season ago, including First-Team selection and Scholar Athlete of the Year Shelby Hooe, that won four of their last six games to earn a berth into the conference tournament for the first time since 2011.
Gardner-Webb kicks off the season Aug. 21 at Troy, followed by a game two days later at Jacksonville State, before returning home to host Wofford in the home-opener Aug. 28.
