Gardner-Webb Hires Stephanie Jones As Assistant Softball Coach
August 21, 2015 | Softball
Gardner-Webb and head coach Tom Cole announced the hiring of Stephanie Jones as assistant softball coach.
Jones comes to Boiling Springs after recently completing a stellar career at Campbell University. The recently graduated Jones replaces McKenzie Morenus, who earlier this month announced that she was stepping away from softball in order to further her education to become a Physican's Assistant.
"I am very excited to have Coach Jones join our staff. She is not only a very skilled young lady, she is also very knowledgeable of the recruiting process, and is an outstanding communicator", remarked Tom Cole. "I know that she was a leader as a player, and I see her using these same skills as a coach. We are very blessed to have Stephanie."
In her four years in Buies Creek, Jones was a three-time First-Team All-Big South selection as a centerfielder and was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State First-Team as a senior.
As a freshman for the Fighting Camels, Jones was named the Big South Conference co-freshman of the year after compiling a .368 batting average with six homes runs, 51 RBI, and posted a .551 slugging percentage.
Jones was also very involved in the community, serving as a teacher's aid at Buies Creek Elementary School.
In the offseason outside of organized team activities, Jones worked numerous softball camps instructing girls of all ages proper outfield and hitting techniques. She also mentored girls on the recruiting process, as well as what life is like as a student-athlete.
This past fall, Jones serviced as a volunteer softball coach at Wake Christian Academy in Raleigh, N.C. She assisted the head coach at practices, planned practice schedules, and prepared condition workouts for the team.
A native of Black Mountain N.C., Jones graduated this past May from Campbell University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Sports Coaching.
