CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Keely Brown has been named the Big South Conference women's soccer defensive player of the week, announced the conference office Monday afternoon.
Playing the first two home games of her career this past week, Brown posted two shutouts leading the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 1-0-1 record. Gardner-Webb captured a 1-0 victory over USC Upstate on Sunday night and recorded a 0-0 draw with Wofford in the team's home opener Friday evening.
The freshman goalkeeper tied her career-high with seven saves in the draw with Wofford and turned away five Upstate shots on Sunday evening.
One of three freshman goalkeepers on the GWU roster, Brown has asserted herself as the team's top goalkeeper having received the starting nod in all four games and currently has not allowed a goal in the last 231 minutes of game action.
Brown and the Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday evening when they take the short trip to Charlotte before returning home two days later to host Mercer.
