Women's Soccer Kicks Off 2015 Season With First Official Practice Tuesday
August 05, 2015 | Women's Soccer
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team held its first official practice of the season Tuesday morning.
Prior to the start of practice, GWU participated in a conditioning test on the track at Spangler Stadium.
For head coach Mike Varga, this was the first time he was able to get a glimpse of the 13 new freshman that will dawn a Runnin' Bulldog jersey this season.
Varga, along with assistant coach Sam Huecker, conducted drills that focused on one-on-one offensive and defensive drills, while goalkeeper coach Lauren Arnold worked with the three freshman goalkeepers.
Gardner-Webb hopes to capitalize on the success of last season that saw it win four of its last six games and earn a berth in the Big South Tournament for the first time since the 2011 season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs open the season Aug. 21 at Troy University and will play at Jacksonville State two days later before returning to Greene-Harbison Stadium when it hosts Wofford for the home-opener Aug. 28.
