
Men's Tennis Opens Fall Season With Victory Over Francis Marion On Day One At Coastal Carolina Invitational

CONWAY, S.C.- The Gardner-Webb University men's tennis team won all three of its doubles matches 8-4 en route to a 7-2 victory in the season-opening event at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
Along with Gardner-Webb, Francis Marion, and fellow Big South foe Campbell University all took the trip down to Myrtle Beach to join host Coastal Carolina to compete in the three-day event.
The Runnin' Bulldogs couldn't have asked for a better start winning all three of its doubles matches to kick off the season. Nikita Zverkov was paired with Yaroslav Prostakov at the no. 1 doubles spot, Jonathan Walker and Paul Hogan formed the no. 2 pairing, while freshman Maximillan School paired up with Benjamin Kaszas to compete at the no. 3 position.
Francis Marion answered back with victories at the no. 1 singles spot as well as the no. 5 spot. Richard Ashforth defeated Zherkov 7-6, 6-1 at no. 1 singles and Philipp Sluga was victorious at no. 5 singles defeating Walker 6-3, 6-7, 10-5.
In his first collegiate singles match, Scholl picked up a victory at no. 2 singles in straight sets over Roettlingsberger, 6-2, 6-4, while Prostokov defeated Faulkenbury at no. 3 singles (6-2,6-4) and Kasas and Hogan each won their singles matches at no. 4 and no. 6 respetively to finish out the match for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
