
Men's Tennis Puts Forth Strong Doubles Play At Coastal Carolina Invitational

CONWAY, S.C.- The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team dropped matches to Coastal Carolina and Campbell but ended the weekend with a 6-5 doubles record as it kicked of the 2015-16 season at the Battle at the Beach hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
Due to rain in the area, the Runnin' Bulldogs had to complete their match with Coastal Carolina on Sunday, followed by singles play against the Camels.
Yaroslav Prostakov led the way for the Dogs with a 2-1 record in singles play on the weekend. Prostakov secured the lone singles win for GWU against the Chanticleers, as the freshman defeated Jabor Al-Mutawa, 6-3, 6-4 at no. 3 singles, but the sophomore came up just short against Campbell droping the match in a third set tiebreak, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6.
In doubles play, Nikita Zverkov and Prostakov were paired at no. 1 singles and defefeated the Chanticleer pairing of Renan Samed and Stefan Jakubov 8-7. Maximilian Scholl and Benjamin Kaszas also were victorious in their doubles match for the Dogs picking up an 8-1 win in the no. 3 position.
Gardner-Webb will next be in action Oct. 2 when it competes at the Elon Fall Invitational.
