Men's Soccer Upended At Coastal In Conference Opener Friday Night

CONWAY, S.C.- William Liles made his second straight start and made four saves, but no. 5 ranked Coastal Carolina scored two goals in the opening three minutes of the first half, en route to a 4-0 victory over the Gardner-Webb men's soccer team, in the Big South Conference opener on Friday evening at the CCU Soccer Stadium.

Marvin Mendy was once again a force leading the charge on the offensive end, leading the Runnin' Bulldogs in shots with two, while Frej Ramberg, Kai Miettinen, and Ali Al-Gashamy each chipped in with a shot a piece.

Coastal Carolina outshot Gardner-Webb 22-5, putting nine shots on goal, and generated seven corner kicks compared to just one for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Offensively, the Chanticleers were led by Bryce Follensbee who took a game-high four shots, two of which he put behind Liles.

The Chanticleers got off to a quick start to the match as Follensebee netted his first goal of the evening just over two minutes into the match. Just 21 seconds later, Follensbee would strike again to double the CCU lead 2-0.

Coastal went on to outshot GWU 12-3 in the opening half and continue to hold a 2-0 lead at the halftime break.

Einar Einarsson buried a free-kick from 21 yards out and Darius Strambler added a goal in the 80th minute, as Coastal would go on to defeat Gardner-Webb 4-0.

The Runnin' Bulldogs return home for their next match on Tuesday, when they host no. 6 Clemson at 7:00 p.m.
