Men's Soccer Falls To #4 Clemson Tuesday Evening

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Sophomore goalkeeper William Liles stopped a career-high 11 shots, but Clemson University used three second half goals to defeat the Gardner-Webb men's soccer team 4-0, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening at Greene-Harbison Stadium.

Liles, starting his third straight game in goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs, kept the game within reach in the first half, recording seven saves as Gardner-Webb trailed just 1-0 at the halftime break.

Clemson, ranked no. 4 in the latest NCAA men's soccer Division I polls, continued to pressure Gardner-Webb for the majority of the match, as the Tigers outshot the Runnin' Bulldogs 32-4 and managed 10 corner kicks while holding GWU to just one.

Ali Al-Gashamy paced the Runnin' Bulldog attack with two shots and Jascha Gluckschalt and Marvin Mendy each had a shot, while T.J. Casner recorded a match-high six shots for the Tigers.

Andrew Tarbell made three stops for the Tigers, en route to his seventh victory of the season.

Casner opened with the first goal of the match for the Tigers in the seventh minute, taking advantage of a failed clearing attempt by the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Despite outshooting the Dogs 17-3 in the first half, Clemson would lead just 1-0 at the halftime break.

Kyle Murphy, Diego Campos, and Thales Moreno each noched a second half strike and Clemson would go on for the 4-0 victory.

Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday when it hosts UNC Asheville in its Big South Conference home-opener at 6:00 p.m.
