Women's Golf & Taylor Dodson Earn Top Five Finishes at 2015 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's golf team finished in fifth-place in the field of 17 teams who participated at the 2015 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, higlighted by yet another strong performance from Junior Taylor Dodson who also finished in fifth-place overall as an individual earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

As a team the Runnin' Bulldogs carded rounds of 303, 311, and 320 to finish with a two-day score of 934 securing a solo fifth-place finish seven shots clear of the closest competitors. GWU posted the highest finish of any Big South Conference teams competing this week finishing ahead of Longwood, High Point, Winthrop, and Radford Universities respectively.

Dodson continued her good form in the early beginnings of this fall season finish in a tie for fifth-place with one other individual.  She shot a scintillating 69, 3-under par in her first round, followed by rounds of 78 and 76 finishing with a total score of 223, +7, as inclement weather factored into scoring across the entire Intercollegiate field. The top-5 finish for Dodson continues a seven consecutive tournament streak of top-10 finishes for her dating back to last spring.

Senior Mary Katherine Donovan garnered a top-25 finish individually for GWU finishing tied for 24th-place scoring rounds of 77, 77, and 79 to have a 54-hole score of 233, +17, roling in six brides over her two-days of play.

Next to place for Gardner-Webb was Julia Henderson who compiled a total score of 239, +23, via rounds of 80, 78, and 81 to finish tied for 31st, just one stroke ahead of the lone freshman in the Runnin' Bulldog line-up Morgan Laird who tied for 50th overall shooting rounds of 78, 80, and 82 giving her 240, +24 in her second collegiate-event.

Junior Courtney Yanch shot 80, 83, and 84 over the two-day Intercollegiate ending with a total combined score of 247, +31, while another Runnin' Bulldog Tessy Tuschen competed as an individual tabbing rounds of 84, 92, and 91 to finish with a score of 267, +51.

Host school East Carolina took home the top team honors at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate shooting a 891 as a team to finish +27 for the tournament seven shots clear of second-place Old Dominion University. The College of William and Mary's Alessandra Liu took home the medalist honors playing wonderful golf right around even par over the two-days to finish +1 for the tournament with rounds of 72, 70, and 75.

The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will next compete at the Charleston Southern Invitational being played at the Rivertowne Country Club in Mt. Pleaseant, S.C. October 5-6.
