Freshman Peters and Zangla Earn Top Finishes In Tri-Meet Action

STATESBORO, GA. – Whitney Peters and Carol Zangla each earned individual wins for Gardner-Webb as the women's swim team faced off against Georgia Southern University and the Savannah College of Art and Design at the RAC Aquatic Center in Statesboro, Ga.

Peters took home the top honors in the 100-Breast swimming to the timely pace of 1:06. 28 and also swam well in the 200 IM finishing fourth (2:12.50), while Zangla earned the second win of the night in the very next event of the evening the 200 Fly with a very strong time of 2:08.46.

Fellow freshman Tessa Walsh followed close behind Zangla in the 200 Fly finishing in a close second for the event with a time of 2:09.11.

Second place finishes came in waves for the Runnin' Bulldogs Friday evening as sophomores Lauren Oglesby, Lili Tóth, and London Schumacher all took home second place in various events. Oglesby took home the finish in the 1,000 Free with a time of 10:41.64, Tóth placed second in the 100 Back swimming to a close finish via a time of 59.27, while Schumacher garnered her finish in the 200 IM from a good time of 2:09.37.

Another strong finish for GWU came from senior Giorgie Graves who finished third in the 200 Free Friday evening with a pace of 1:55.71. Sophomore Kelsey Williams placed fourth in the 50 Free, the top spot for Gardner-Webb in the event, with a time of 25.17, and freshman Morgan VanderSchaaf took home fifth in the 1,000 Free.

The GWU women's swim team swam well in this evenings relays taking home the third (Tóth, Peters, Graves, Williams- 1:48.98) and fifth (Caroline Andrews, Anna Banick, Walsh, Christina Clayton- 1:52. 93) positions in the 200 Medley Relay and fourth (Graves, Williams, Mackenzie Ropka- 3:38.75) and fifth (Taylor Schwartz, Zangla, Adel Kiss, Andrews- 3:40.95) in the 400 Free Relay.

The Gardner-Webb women's swim team will continue the tri-meet action and tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. as they travel to Savannah, Ga. to face off against the same opponents.
