BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Olivia Parker and Alexus Hill each scored a game-high 15 points and the Gardner-Webb women's basketball team shot 50% in the second half as it defeated Longwood 67-42 for its fifth straight victory on Tuesday night in Paul Porter Arena.
With the victory, Gardner-Webb improves to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in Big South play, while Longwood falls to 5-13 and 2-7 in conference action.
The Runnin' Bulldogs led 31-22 at halftime but put the game out of reach, as they outscored the Lancers 36-19 and shot 50% in the final 20 minutes compared to just a 20.6% clip for Longwood.
Parker recorded her ninth double-double of the season and led the charge offensivlye with seven offensive boards as Gardner-Webb outrebounded the Lancers 48-39. The Runnin' Bulldogs pulled down 15 boards on the offensive end and Longwood totaled 14 offensive rebounds, but Gardner-Webb did a great job of converting the opportunities, as it totaled 21 second chance points compared to just two for the Lancers.
Candace Brown dished out a game-high four assists and Aunesha Williams came off the bench and added three dimes as the Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 15 assists on the evening, their most this season.
Gardner-Webb did a great job of getting out and scoring on the fast break en route to 14 fastbreak points and outscored Longwood by a 42-14 margin on points in the paint.
Longwood jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead in the game's opening quarter but Gardner-Webb fought back and led 13-9 on a three-pointer by Hill, but Daeisha Brown's jumper with two seconds left in the quarter cut the GWU lead to 15-14 at the end of 10 minutes.
The scored was tied at 20 midway through the second quarter, but GWU extended its advantage to nine, 31-22 at the halftime break as they limited the Lancers to just two points over the final 6:13 of the half.
Gardner-Webb held Longwood to just two points in the third quarter as its lead would balloon to as much as 23 points in the third period, and shot 16-of-32 for a 50% clip in the second half en route to the 67-42 victory.
The Runnin' Bulldogs goes for their sixth straight victory Saturday afternoon, when they host Radford at 2:00 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
