Gardner-Webb's Austin Trott Named Arby's SoCon Wrestler of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference office selected Gardner-Webb's Austin Trott as Arby's' SoCon Wrestler of the Week Wednesday, his first honor of the 2015-2016 season.
Trott (Kingsland, Ga. / Camden County HS) helped power Gardner-Webb to a 22-18 win over 25th-ranked Appalachian State Tuesday night, capturing an 11-4 decision over the Mountaineers' Forrest Pryzbysz – who entered ranked No. 25 himself in the NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings.
Trott's win was decisive, with a pair of near falls creating early momentum. The redshirt junior narrowly missed scoring bonus points in the match – but pushed Gardner-Webb's team lead to 15-8 with four bouts remaining. It was the third consecutive weight class captured by the Runnin' Bulldogs on the night.
It was Trott's first SoCon dual of the season and moved his record to 8-4 overall in 2015-2016. The 2014 NCAA qualifier at 165 pounds has won 62 bouts in his three seasons with the Runnin' Bulldogs to date.
Trott earned Arby's SoCon Wrestler of the Week honors for the third time in his career – once in each of his season's on the mat so far. He was named December Wrestler of the Month by the league in 2014.
Gardner-Webb (4-5, 3-1 SoCon) returns to Paul Porter Arena for another key SoCon match on Sunday, January 31, hosting Campbell at 3:00 pm. The match will air live on the Big South Network (bigsouthsports.com).
