Box Score ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Gardner-Webb was defeated, 1-0, in a matchup of Bulldogs Wednesday night, falling on the road at UNC Asheville.
The Runnin' Bulldogs fell to 4-6-1 (1-2-0 Big South), while UNC Asheville improved to 4-8-0 (3-0-0 Big South)
UNC Asheville broke a scoreless tie with a goal nine minutes in. Asheville's Luis Dantas Felipe found the back of the net off a perfectly timed pass from Devin Francis, in which Dantas Felipe was able to chip past the keeper.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had a plethora of opportunities throughout the rest of the half, but couldn't capitalize, as Asheville took its 1-0 lead into the break.
The host Bulldogs maintained the momentum coming out of the break for the first 25 minutes of the second half until Gardner-Webb was able to force a turnover and make a push.
Gardner-Webb maintained the pressure, as they put three shots on frame in the final eight minutes of the match. None was bigger than Magnus Moldjord placing a shot on frame with less than 30 seconds left in the match that forced the keeper to make a crucial save and preserve Asheville's 1-0 lead.
The Runnin' Bulldogs were led by Moldjord with four shots (four on frame), while getting two shots each from Al-Gashamy, Severin Soerlie, and Marvin Mendy. UNC Asheville was led by Dantas Felipe with the lone goal, while Zach Joens had two shots on the night.
Gardner-Webb will return to action on Saturday, October 8, as they travel to Farmville, Virginia, to take on the Lancers of Longwood University. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm.
