Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – Tierra Huntsman and Alexus Hill both reached double-figures in scoring, yet Gardner-Webb fell to UCF by a score of 66-52 on Saturday afternoon.
Huntsman scored 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including 4-of-8 from behind the three point line, while Hill was 4-of-11 on the day, scoring 11 points. Gardner-Webb (3-5) shot 39.1 percent from the floor, while UCF (8-2) shot at a 44.3 percent clip. The Knights outrebounded GWU, 40-27, and had more points off of turnovers, 30-16.
Gardner-Webb opened the game with a quick 5-2 run, sparked by a layup by Celia Tibbs with 9:02 on the clock that drew contact. She converted the subsequent free throw to give the Runnin' Bulldogs the early three point lead. UCF would score six straight points to take a 8-5 lead, but Huntsman would drill two consecutive three pointers to once again give GWU a three point lead, 11-8, with 6:08 remaining. The Knights would then go on a 16-2 run to take control of the period, leading by a score of 24-13 at the end of the first frame.
UCF would control play for much of the second period, outscoring Gardner-Webb by a margin of 20-9 to take a 44-22 lead into halftime.
Action throughout the third period was balanced, as the two teams would exchange buckets for the duration of the quarter, with UCF holding a 56-32 lead headed to the final period.
Huntsman would connect from downtown to open the fourth period, followed by a layup from Charlisa Jenkins to give the Runnin' Bulldogs a quick 5-0 run in the first minute of the quarter. GWU would pull within 13 points at 60-47 with 4:21 to go following a layup from Hill, but would be unable to pull any closer, eventually falling by a final score of 66-52.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Monday, December 19th at Western Carolina. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
