ATHENS, GA. – Sophomore London Schumacher broke a School Record for the Gardner-Webb women's team this evening, while fellow sophomore Lauren Oglesby won a B-Final event to pace Gardner-Webb on the second evening of finals at the 2016 CCSA Championships.
The Gardner-Webb women currently sit in fourth-place after day two of the meet totaling 277 points so far in meet action.
In the Women's 200 IM Final London Schumacher finished fourth overall breaking a School Record with a NCAA "B"Cut time of 2:01.54, while fellow sophomore Lily Toth took home seventh-place finishing at 2:03.95.
Swimming in the 200 IM C-Final Freshman Tessa Walsh swam competitively taking fourth-place, while Whitney Peters took home fifth-place, and Adel Kiss finished in seventh for Gardner-Webb in the event.
The Lady Runnin' Bulldogs were very impressive in the 500 Free B-Final as Lauren Oglesby won the race just out touching opponents to win and swimming to the fast time of 4:55.82.
Freshman Miranda Johns was right behind Oglesby to finish third overall from a swim of 5:00.64, while fellow freshman Morgan Vanderschaaf took seventh in the final swimming 5:03.42 in the 500 Free event.
Senior Madi Dinsmore picked up good points for the Runnin' Bulldogs by earning a second place finish in the 500 Free C-Final. The senior swam to a time of 5:05.35 for Garnder-Webb.
Swimming in the 50 Free C-Final Kelsey Williams picked up a fourth-place finish this evening for Gardner-Webb swimming to a time of 23.84 in the short-distance event just outside of the top three in the heat.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished out the evening in the 200 Free Relay as Williams, Toth, Giorgie Graves, and Christina Clayton made up the team that finished tied for fourth with Georgia Southern University with a time of 1:34.33.
Coach Mike Simpson had this to say about the night for the women's team, "The challenge for this evening was to being consistent across the board. Tonight the women took that challenge on and accomplished it. Across the board from the Lauren's win in the B-Final to London breaking the record it was just a solid evening all around. I was really pleased with the 200 Relay as well. Overall, consistency was key tonight."
The women's team will look to continue this stretch of strong performances as they kick-off day three tomorrow morning with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. and in the evening finals starting at 6:00 p.m.
