ATHENS, GA. – Gardner-Webb saw record-breaking performances from senior Nathan Lile, freshman Peter Wakeley, and the 400 Medley Relay Team this evening showcasing the team's wealth of talent on the third evening of the 2016 CCSA Championships.
Lile broke yet another School Record this time also setting a CCSA Conference and Championship Meet Record in the 100 Fly as the senior won the event this evening with a NCAA "B" Cut time of 46.52. Lile continues to prove his dominance in the pool at this year's Championships.
In this evenings 400 IM B-Final event freshman Peter Wakeley set a new School Record in the swimming a time of 3:57.97 winning the event showing his potential for the seasons to come.
The GWU 400 Medley Relay Team of Lile, Austin Toney, Tyler Gomez, and Bos broke the School Record by two whole seconds with a time of 3:17.04 earning fourth-place overall. Lile's 100 Back split for the relay was fast enough to earn him the new School, CCSA Conference and Championship Meet Record with a NCAA "B" Cut time of 47.17.
Bos finished second on the podium for Gardner-Webb this evening in the 100 Back with NCAA "B" Cut time of 48.69.
Andrew Knudsen earned a third-place finish in the 100 Fly B-Final, while senior Tate Warden earned seventh from a time of 50.55, and in the 100 Fly C-Final Fred Simons IV swam to a first place finish in the heat with a time of 50.41
In the B-Final of the 100 Back sophomore John Baker finished first for the event a time of 49.72, while Junior Andrew Linzie earned a sixth-place finish from a time of 52.13
Behind Wakeley in the 400 IM B-Final was sophomore Mason Hutchinson (4:00.63) taking third-place, while Manny Avila (4:02.74) finished fifth, and Luke Denman (4:07.97) earned the seventh-place position.
Gardner-Webb claimed the first, second, fourth, and sixth place spots in the B-Final of the 100 Breast with Austin Toney timing in at 56.42, Jake Ennis swimming 56.63, Simons IV going 57.12, and Josh Hanson finishing at 58.30.
Sophomores Cameron Pou (1:40.41) and Josh Clarke (1:41.12) swam well this evening in the 200 Free B-Final earning second-place and fifth-place respectively in the event.
The lone Gardner-Webb swimmer in the 200 Free C-Final was Sophomore Hal McKay who earned a first-place finish for the Runnin' Bulldogs swimming a time of 1:40.82.
Gardner-Webb will start action on the final day of the Championships tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with finals starting up at 6:00 p.m.
