HILTON HEAD, S.C.- Gardner-Webb men's golf completed their first tournament of the spring season placing in 14th at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C.
As a team Gardner-Webb shot rounds of 301, 297, and 302 over the two-day, 54-hole event hosted by Francis Marion University on the 6,913 yard, Par-72, Wexford Plantation Course.
The top finishers for Gardner-Webb at the event were sophomore Aaron Thomas and red-shirt junior Elki Kow, who both finished in a tie for 27th-place finishing with combined scores of 222, +6. Thomas finished the event with rounds of 74, 75, and 73, while Kow shot 74 all three days of the Intercollegiate.
Red-shirt junior Chris Jones finished tied for 40th-place after Monday and Tuesdays' rounds shooting 73, 77, and 77 giving the Charlotte, N.C. native a total combined score of 226, +10.
Coming in with a tie for 55th-place was junior Vincent Blanchette who carded an 80 the first round, followed by a Runnin' Bulldog low round of 71 for the event, finishing with a 79 giving him an overall score of 230, +14.
Sophomore Jake Kennedy rounded out the Gardner-Webb line-up for this first spring tournament shooting 84 and 83 on Mondays' rounds and finishing the Intercollegiate with an 81 this morning.
The Campbell University Fighting Camels took home the top team honors at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate shooting 286, 282, and 279 as a team to finish at -17-under par a total score of 847.
Andrew Novak of Wofford College was the top individual finisher this week as he shot rounds of 70, 67, and 66 to finish at 203 -13-under par earning him the medalist honors.
The Runnin' Bulldogs men's golf team will tee it up next at Davidson Intercollegiate this coming week with first round action beginning the morning of Monday, February 29.
