BLACKSBURG, Va. --- Jordan Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) earned a pair of bronze medals and two spots on the Big South All-Conference Third Team in the shot put and the weight throw, accounting for two of Gardner-Webb's seven all-conference performances at the Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
Gardner-Webb finished fourth in the men's standings with 53 points, and seventh in the women's standings with 42 points as Liberty took home both team titles.
Titus Hamilton (Blair, Neb.) wrapped up the heptathlon in the best way possible, winning the 60-meter hurdles with a personal record of 8.88 seconds to finish fifth in the overall event standings. Josh Wembolua (Matthews, N.C.) built upon his strong performance in the 60-meter hurdle prelims with an even better showing in the finals, finishing second with a time of 8.37 seconds to earn a spot on the Big South All-Conference Second Team.
Marcus Abraham (Charlotte, N.C.) turned in one of the more impressive performances of the day in the shot put, taking home all-conference second team honors with a PR of 16.75 meters – nearly half a meter longer than his previous personal best. Smith followed close behind in third, picking up his second all-conference medal of the weekend with a personal-record throw of 16.67 meters.
Sarah Mitchell (Roswell, Ga.) earned all-conference second team honors in the women's shot put, placing second with a mark of 13.31 meters. Diamond Reese's (Atlanta, Ga.) performance in the shot put was perhaps the most pleasant surprise of the week, as the sophomore finished fourth with a personal-best of 12.99 meters after entering the weekend ranked 18th in the event.
Kayin Mujahid (Philadelphia, Pa.) garnered all-conference third team honors in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters to wrap up a strong weekend for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Keaton Poole (Spindale, N.C.) finished eighth in the one-mile run with a PR of 4:30.62, as both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay teams placed fourth with times of 3:21.60 and 3:54.10, respectively.
Quenton Jones (Moore, S.C.) and Jalin Lawson (Fort Gaines, Ga.) placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the triple jump with marks of 13.80 and 13.79 meters.
Christopher Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) and Merideth Byl (Tucson, Ariz.) were named to the Big South Conference All-Academic teams.
Gardner-Webb opens the outdoor season on Thursday, March 17 in Charlotte, N.C. at the Charlotte 49er Invitational.
