
Women's Golf Kicks Off Spring Season with Fourth Place Finish

LAKE MARY, FLA.- The Gardner-Webb women's golf team started their 2016 spring campaign this week finishing in fourth at Seminole State Spring Break event hosted by Seminole State College of Florida at the Timaucan Golf and Country Club located in Lake Mary, Fla.
The Runnin' Bulldogs shot rounds of 323 and 316 over the two-day 36-hole event on the par-72, 6,152 yard course which totaled up gave them a scoer of 639, +63, just two strokes behind third-place finisher Appalachian State University.
Juniors Taylor Dodson and Sarah Bertram continued to preform well for GWU as they both were top finishers in the event for the team placing in a tie for fifth-place with one other individual. Dodson carded rounds of 80 and 76 equaling out to a total score of 156, +12, while Bertram arrived at the score of 156, +12, with a pair of 78's.
A highlight from Dodson's finish this week is that it continues a streak dating back to the fall 2014 season. The Seminole State Spring Break event was the 12th straight event where Dodson finished in the top-10 showing just how consistent of a player she is for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
Next to finish on the team was Julia Henderson who shot two rounds of 81 at the event finishing with a combined 36-hole score of 162, +18, good enough for a tie in 19th on the leaderboard. Just behind Henderson was senior Mary Katherine Donovan who finished in a tie for 22nd overall from rounds of 84 and 81 giving her a score of 165, +21.
Courtney Yanch rounded out the GWU team as she carded rounds of 84 and 88 placing her in tie for the 30th position at the event with a score of 172, +28
The host school Seminole State took home the top team and individual honors this week. As a team they shot rounds of 311 and 301 to finish at +36, 612, while Josefine Garton of Seminole State fired rounds of 72 and 74 to finish at +2, 146, to earn the medalist award.
The women's golf team will tee it up next at the Low Country Intercollegiate March 19-20 at the Moss Creek Country Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
