FARMVILLE, V.A – One day after suffering a loss to Liberty, the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team (5-9, 2-3) picked up a Big South Conference win over Longwood (6-9, 1-4) 5-1.
The Runnin' Bulldogs picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to jump out to an early lead. Rokia Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon teamed up at the No. 2 spot and defeated Anna Pelak and Mason Thomas 6-3. Catherine White and Sarah Rieckmann defeated their opponents 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. The win improved White and Rieckman's doubles record to 10-3 on the season.
No. 1 singles player Sacko handed Fallon Burger a loss in straight sets (7-5, 6-0).
Gardner-Webb also picked up wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles position. Stina Magnusson defeated Pelak (6-2, 7-5), while Sandra Bolstad battled and beat Isis Gill-Reid (6-2, 7-5).
Rieckmann fought hard in her No. 4 singles match, but fell in three sets to Paloma Alatorre (2-6, 6-1, 6-4).
White also picked up a win at No. 5 singles, defeating Thomas (6-4, 6-0).
The Runnin' Bulldogs will hit the courts again when they host Big South foe Winthrop Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
