Women's Golf Takes Third-Place at the 2016 Low Country Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.- The Gardner-Web women's golf team was a top-finisher placing in third-place overall as a team, while having four individuals post top-25 finishes at the 2016 Low Country Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College at the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C.

As a team Gardner-Webb shot a final round of 311 this afternoon coupled with a first round score of 306 to leave them with a total of 617, +41, just three strokes behind second-place Chattanooga.

Junior Taylor Dodson compiled her 13th straight top-10 finish as she was the highest individual finisher for the Runnin' Bulldogs taking a tie for sixth-place overall at the Intercollegiate. The Aiken, S.C. native carded rounds of 76 in both of her rounds this weekend finishing at a score of 152, +8.

Finishing one stroke behind Dodson was fellow junior Sarah Bertram. Bertram finished in a tie for ninth-place on the individual leaderboard, her second straight top-10 performance, via rounds of 74 and 79 giving her a 36-hole score of 153, +9, for the Intercollegiate.

Julia Henderson was the next to place for Gardner-Webb as she finished in a tie for 21st with rounds of 79 and 77 finishing at 156, +12, while Mary Katherine Donovan was just behind Henderson shooting an opening round 78 coupled by a 79 to close the Intercollegiate with a combined two-day score of 157, +13, in a tie for 25th-place.

Rounding out the GWU lineup playing in her first event of this young spring season was freshman Morgan Laird. Laird earned a tie for 55th-place overall as the lone freshman on the team carded rounds of 78 and 85 finishing with a total score of 163, +19.

Bethune-Cookman University took home the top team honors at the Low Country Intercollegiate firing rounds of 304 and 307 to finish the two-day, 36-hole event, with a total team score of 611, +35.

Sasha Banks of Brown University took home the medalist honors at the Intercollegiate shooting rounds of 75 and 71 this weekend to finish at 146, +2, overall.

The Gardner-Webb women's golf team will be back in action next at the Mimosa Hills Women's Intercollegiate hosted at Mimosa Hills Country Club in Morganton, N.C.
