Gardner-Webb Softball Drops Series Finale To Campbell

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb softball team dropped the final game of a three-game series, 9-0, to Campbell in a Big South Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Brinkley Softball Stadium.

Gardner-Webb had a tough time mustering up an offensive attack, as the duo of Katie Baker and Amber Schisler combined to allow just one hit over five innings. Baker tossed 3.1 innings on the afternoon and allowed just one hit and struck out four, while Amber Schisler throw 1.2 innings and allowed one baserunner, a walk to Megan Gibbons.

The Fighting Camels were in the midst of a perfect game until the second inning when Gibbons drew a walk, and the no-hit bid was snapped in the bottom of the fourth, when Gomes roped a two-out single through the left hand side.

Campbell jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Baker doubled on the first pitch and after Schisler drew a walk, McCollum scored Baker on an RBI double to right center. One batter later, Schisler plated the second run on an RBI sacrifice fly by Madison Herring.

The Fighting Camels added runs in all five innings and went on for the 9-0 victory.

Gardner-Webb returns to action Wednesday, when it hosts North Carolina A&T for a doubleheader, starting at 3:00 p.m.
