ATLANTA, GA. – Senior Nathan Lile completed his time at the 2016 NCAA Championships this morning swimming in the prelims for the 100 Free event.
Lile swam to a time of 43.55 to finish 36th overall Saturday morning in the event. The Waynesville, N.C. native also participated in the 100 Fly on Friday morning placing in a tie for 19th-place with a GWU School Record and personal best time of 46.26, the highest finish for Lile at the Championships.
Lile started the Championships off by placing 34th in the 50 Free Prelims with a time of 19.78 seconds Thursday morning. Thursday evening Lile was honored with the NCAA Elite 90 Award, awarded to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at the finals' site for each of the NCAA's 90 individual championships.
Head Coach Mike Simpson had this to say about Lile's time at the Championships, "We are so incredibly proud of the effort and response of Nathan over the past three days."
Simpson went on to say that, "Even though some of the results weren't there for Nathan in the 50 and 100 Free he fought back and was determined to change things in the 100 Fly. The fly was his best time by a significant amount and he was just a tenth of a second away from making finals. Also, to win the Elite 90 Award was icing on the cake and shows how well Nathan and GWU were represented this week at the Championships."
Lile will continue on the path to try and obtain a second and third Olympic trial cut tomorrow by competing in the long course time trials held at the same venue in Atlanta, Ga. Coach Simpson put a close on the week by stating, "I know Runnin' Bulldog nation is very proud of Nathan. This week has been a fabulous experience that (Nathan) he will remember for the rest of his life."
