Thomas Earns Top-15 Finish as Dogs' Place 14th at 2016 Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C.- Sophomore Aaron Thomas earned the best finish of his career over this Easter weekend as he took twelfth-place overall, while the team as a whole earned a 14th-place finish at the 2016 Furman Intercollegiate hosted by Furman University at the Furman Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs as a team shot rounds of 291, 285, and 299 for a combined score of 875, +11, to finish 14th out the 19 team field.
Thomas shot an opening round 71, -1 under-par, and then followed that up with a collegiate best round of 66, -6 under-par, second round, before finishing the tournament 75, +3, on Easter Sunday. Thomas finished with a 54-hole score of 212, -4 under-par and holed twelve birdies en route to his best collegiate finish over the weekend earning the top individual spot for the Dogs'.
The next finisher for GWU was red-shirt junior Elki Kow fired opening round of even-par 72's on Friday and Saturday and finished out the intercollegiate with a Sunday round of 76, +4, to finish at 220, +4 for the event finishing in a tie for 49th-place. Kow tied with Thomas for the lead in birdies holed by Runnin' Bulldog also sinking twelve over the three days.
Fellow red-shirt junior Chris Jones placed in a tie for the 54th spot on the leaderboard as he compiled rounds of 73, 73, and 75, to finish at 221, +5, over his 54-holes of play in Greenville, S.C.
The GWU lineup was rounded out as junior Vincent Blanchette and Sophomore Jake Kennedy finished in a tie for 79th overall at the Intercollegiate. Blanchette carded rounds of 75, 74, and 76, while Kennedy shot 77, 75, and 73, as the pair totaled scores of 225, +9.
Georgia State University won the team side of the Intercollegiate as the Panthers finished at -23 under-par shooting rounds of 285, 275, and 281.
Ryan Cornfield of USC Upstate earned the medalist honors at the Intercollegiate firing rounds of 70, 64, and 69 to finish with a total score of 203, -13 under-par.
Gardner-Webb will be back in action next at the ECU Intercollegiate hosted April 4-5 at the Greenville Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
