Women's Tennis Secures Conference Victory Over Radford

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team (6-10, 3-4) got back in the win-column with a 5-2 victory over Big South Conference foe Radford at the Webb Tennis Courts Tuesday afternoon.

 The Runnin' Bulldogs claimed two of the three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. Rokia Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon paired up to defeat Melli Martin and Tarrannum Handa 6-4 in the No. 2 spot, while the duo of Catherine White and Sarah Rieckmann beat Taylor Fay amd Claire Nguyen 7-6 at No. 3.
 

At No. 1 singles Sacko handed Natalie Sayer a (6-2, 6-4) loss, winning her third Big South match this season.  Sandra Bolstad also got in the winning column for Gardner-Webb with a (6-3, 6-2) victory over Martin at the No. 3 position.

 The other two winners for the Runnin' Bulldogs were White and Laura Fermosel. White quickly defeated Taylor Fay in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 singles. Fermosel was victorious in the No. 6 slot, beating Karlie Pope (7-6, 6-0).
 
Stina Magnusson battle Handa tough in the first set, but eventually lost (7-5, 6-0) at No. 2. Rieckmann also suffered a loss in the No. 4 slot (6-2, 6-2) to Grace Sarver.
 

The Runnin' Bulldogs will be back in action Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Appalachian State with a start time set for 2 p.m.
