Men's Tennis Takes Down Wofford

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team (7-9) won the first four matches to defeat Wofford (7-11) 4-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Courts.

 The Runnin' Bulldogs started the match off by claiming both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches to take the match point. Maximilian Scholl and Nikita Zverkov defeated Haris Poric and Parks Thompson 6-3 at the No. 1 spot, while Yaroslav Prostakov and Paul Hogan handed Trevor Gotowski and David Skiar 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Scholl, a freshmen continued his hot streak by winning at No. 1 singles.  He defeated Haris Poric in straight sets (7-5, 6-4) to extend his winning streak to seven.

Gardner-Webb also picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Zverkov made quick work of Thompson at No. 2 singles winning (7-5, 6-2) and Benjamin Kaszas won a thriller in three sets (1-6, 7-5, 6-1) over Alan Poric.

In the unfinished matches the Runnin' Bulldogs had leads in two of the three. Prostakov and Skiar had each won a set at No. 3 singles with Prostakov winning the third set 1-0. At the No. 6 slot Jonathan Walker took the first set 6-3 and was leading the second set 5-4 over Parks Schoen when the matched ended. Adam Schmidt trailed 3-0 in the third set to Kyle Barr at No. 5 singles after the two had each won a set a piece.

Gardner-Webb will hit the courts again tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Big South Conference foe Longwood. The Runnin' Bulldogs and Lancers are set to begin at 2 p.m.
