BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team (4-7) fell to Western Carolina (7-3) 4-3 Tuesday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Courts.
Rokia Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon paired up to defeat Megan McLinden and Savannah Taranto 6-2 at No. 2 doubles, while Catherine White and Sarah Rieckmann were victorious 6-3 in the No. 3 slot to help the Runnin' Bulldogs secure the double's point.
Sacko lost a tight contest at No. 1 singles, falling to Stacia Kissell in three sets (7-5, 4-6, 2-6).
Winners in the singles portion for the Runnin' Bulldogs were White and Rieckmann. White defeated Elizabeth Ansari (7-6, 6-2) at No. 5 singles and Rieckmann won in three sets at the No. 4 position (5-7, 6-0, 6-1).
Gardner-Webb will hit the courts again Thursday at Wofford with a start time set for 2 p.m.
