HIGH POINT, N.C. — Sarah Mitchell (Roswell, Ga.) set a new personal record, and won the shot put to highlight eight personal-best performances for Gardner-Webb on the first day of High Point's VertKlasse Meeting on Friday at the Dick Vert Stadium.
Mitchell and Moriah Mason (Decatur, Ga.) each sailed past their previous personal bests in the shot put, as Mitchell won the event with a PR of 13.73 meters and Mason placed ninth with a toss of 12.84 meters - nearly two meters further than her personal record entering the day. Kailey Robinson (Connelly Springs, N.C.) placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.36 meters, while Karin Sartre (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also posted a PR of 3.06 meters in the event.
Jenna Ford (Wasilla, Alaska) paced the Runnin' Bulldogs in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a PR of 11:56.32, while Sydney Davis (Granite Falls, N.C.) ran to a new personal-best of 20:07.87 in the 5,000-meter event. Keaton Poole (Spindale, N.C.) and Haden Baker (Morgantown, N.C.) each set new PR's in the 1,500-meter run with times of 4:08.38 and 5:13.66, respectively, as Christopher Lile (Paynesville, N.C.) posted a personal best of 10:01.53 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Gardner-Webb will wrap up the weekend on the second and final day of High Point's VertKlasse Meeting Saturday.
