
Liberty Downs Men's Tennis In Big South Quarterfinals

The Flames took two of the three doubles matches to gain an early 1-0 advantage on the 'Dogs. Maximilian Scholl and Nikita Zverkov did win at No. 1 doubles, defeating Egon Samaai and Sam Matheson 6-4.
The first three singles matches to go final were all in the favor of Liberty which secured the victory. Zverkov battled at No. 2 singles, but succumbed (7-5, 6-4) to Samaai.
Benjamin Kaszas lost to Diego Castano at the No. 3 position in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). The other victoriy for Liberty came at No. 3 singles. Yaroslav Prostakov was defeated by Eddie Guitierrez at No. 3 (6-1, 7-6).
Jonathan Walker at the No. 6 position and Adam Schmidt at No. 5 matches both went unfinished. Walker trailed one set to none, but led the second set 4-2, while Schmidt was tied 4-4 with David Bush in the second set after losing the first set 6-4.
Scholl was leading #94 Matheson one set to none when the match finished. Scholl had already handed Matheson's first loss on the season to him earlier in the season.
Gardner-Webb finishes a strong season, as it won eight of their last 13 matches.
