GWU's Taylor Dodson and Morgan Laird Garner Big South Women's Golf Postseason Honors
April 15, 2016 | Women's Golf
CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Gardner-Webb junior Taylor Dodson was named to the 2016 Big South Women's Golf All-Conference and All-Academic Teams, while freshman Morgan Laird earned herself a spot on the All-Freshman Team. The League office announced the selections earlier this week after the completion of the 2016 Big South Women's Golf Championship.
Dodson's spot on the All-Conference team was secured by strong consistent play throughout the entire fall and spring seasons. She earned top-10 finishes in all 9 of Gardner-Webb's regular season tournaments, highlighted by her Co-Medalist finish at the 2015 Winthrop Intercollegiate last October where she shot the low round of her season 65, -7 under-par. Dodson was honored on three separate occasions this year as the Conference's Golfer of the Week and sported the 73.79 scoring average for the season.
In the classroom Dodson, a Chemistry major, holds down a 3.74 GPA over her three years at Gardner-Webb. She is a member of the Sigma Gamma Honors Society and currently serves as the President for the Gamma Sigma Epsilon Honors Society on Gardner-Webb's Campus. Proving to be a force on the course and in the classroom Dodson truly encapsulates what it means to be a student-athlete.
In just her first year at Gardner-Webb Laird played in 17 rounds for Gardner-Webb over the regular season posting the low round of 75 on two separate occasions and earning the best finish of her young career at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate where she placed in a tie for 13th-place overall. The freshman carried a 79.06 scoring average for her rookie season of play in the Big South and shows a great deal of potential for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the years to come.
Gardner-Webb finished its year placing in fifth at the Big South Championship earlier this week and will look to build on the successes of this year as they now prepare for the summer months of golf before returning to action this coming fall.
