
Men's Golf in Fifth-Place After Day One of the 2016 Big South Championship

Ninety-Six, S.C.- The Gardner-Webb men's golf team are currently positioned in fifth-place overall at the 2016 Big South Championship hosted at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor located in Ninety-Six, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs shot 299, +11, as a team over their first 18-holes of play at the 7,120 yard, par-72 course leaving them one stroke ahead of sixth-place Longwood University and 13 shots off the pace of the day one leader Liberty University.
Red-shirt junior Chris Jones had the best day individually on the course for GWU as Jones fired an even-par 72 today putting him in a tie for seventh overall on the leaderboard just five strokes behind the leader from Campbell University Jesper Svensson.
Sophomore Jake Kennedy is currently tied for 18th overall with four other individuals after firing an opening round of 75, +3, score over his first round of action at the Championship.
Both junior Vincent Blanchette and sophomore Aaron Thomas sit tied for 23rd on the individual leaderboard after they each carded an opening round of 76, +4. Both Blanchette and Thomas are coming off strong play over the past two weeks and will look to rebound in their rounds tomorrow afternoon.
Finishing off the five Gardner-Webb competitors at the Championship was red-shirt junior Elki Kow. Kow finished tied for the 28th position after day one of the Championship where he shot a 77, +5, during his round of action.
Gardner-Webb will look to get off to a quick start in day two of the Championship as the Runnin' Bulldogs will tee-off from 8:30-9:10 a.m. from the 415 yard, par-4, 10th hole.
