Gardner-Webb Remains in Fifth-Place After Day Two of the 2016 Big South Men's Golf Championship

Ninety-Six, S.C.- At the completion of the second-round of play at the 2016 Big South Men's Golf Championship the Gardner-Webb men's golf team remained in fifth-place on the team leaderboard at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, S.C.

GWU faired well in their second round shaving 11 shots off of their first round total to shoot a combined team score of 288, even-par, on day two of the Championship. The Runnin' Bulldogs sit in fifth with the two-round score of 587, +11, just one stoke behind the fourth-place Winthrop Eagles.

Red-shirt junior Chris Jones remains the top Runnin' Bulldog on the individual leaderboard as he shot his second consecutive even-par 72 at the Championship placing him in a tie for eighth-place overall at the event.

Sophomore Aaron Thomas had the round of the day for the Runnin' Bulldogs as he fired a 71, -1 under-par today, moving him up eight spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 15th with the 36-hole score of 147, +3.

Both Thomas and Jones lead the Runnin' Bulldogs at the Championship in birdies made as each individually has holed seven birdies over their 36-holes of play.

Vincent Blanchette followed suit of teamamate Jones today shooting a 72, even-par, round of his own to gain three spots from yesterday tying himself for 20th-place with a total score of 148, +4, after two days at the Championship.

Elki Kow improved his score by four shots at the Championship today firing a round of 73, +1, paired with his first round 77, +5, to give him the 36-hole total score of 150, +6, at the event and a share of the 24th position on the leaderboard.

Rounding out the lineup for Gardner-Webb at day two of the Championship was sophomore Jake Kennedy who shot a second round score of 77, +5, over the morning and afternoon to place him in a tie for 30th with the total score of 152, +8.

The current leader of the Championship is Austin James of Charleston Southern University who after two rounds of play sports the score of 136, -8 under-par, while Liberty University currently sits atop the team leaderboard with a team score of 567, -9 under-par.

The Gardner-Webb men's team will start their final rounds at the 2016 Big South Championship tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. as they look to finish off strong in Ninety-Six, S.C.
