Women's Basketball Inks Corinna Wiegand For 2016-17

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Corinna Wiegand (Neuhof-Giesel,Germany) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Gardner-Webb University and play basketball for the Runnin' Bulldogs starting in the fall of 2016, announced head coach Rick Reeves Wednesday.
"We are very excited to add Corinna to a group of very talented incoming freshman class," remarked Coach Reeves. "She is an excellent student as well as an exceptional basketball talent that we expect to have a good career here at Gardner-Webb University."
Wiegand joins twin sisters Carley (Clearwater, Fla.) and Savannah Plentovich (Clearwater, Fla.) and Morgan Pointer (Greensboro, N.C.) who each signed NLI's during the early signing period.
The 6-3 forward/center just finished her first full season playing for Fulda FT under the direction of head coach Ritz Ingram. Wiegand missed parts of the last three seasons due to various injuries.
At the conclusion of her senior season in 2015-16, Wiegand received the Christine Knapp-Manske Trophy, which is given to the player that showed the highest level of desire, attitude, and work ethic to improve the team as well as an individual.
As a junior, Wiegand led the FT Fulda in scoring with averaging 18.2 points-per-game and helped guide Fulda to the U19-west district championship in 2013-14. Wiegand also garnered MVP honors for the U17 squad and becomes the second player from FT Fulda to earn a Division I scholarship to the United States.
Gardner-Webb compiled a 19-12 overall record in 2015-16, its most wins since 2010-11 (23-11) and finished fourth in the Big South standings with a 13-7 record in league play.
