DURHAM, N.C. — Sarah Mitchell (Roswell, Ga.) and AJ White (Hurricane, W.Va.) each set a pair of new personal-records to lead the way for Gardner-Webb on Saturday at the Duke Invitational, as the Runnin' Bulldogs combined for 10 individual bests on the meet's final day.
Ivy Harris (Bailey, N.C.) set a new PR in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 26.37 seconds, as Caleb Silvey (Greenville, S.C.) equaled the feat with a time 23.05 seconds in the men's event. Lauren Kilpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) established a personal-best with a time of 5:25.80 in the 1,500-meter run, beating her previous PR by almost 10 seconds, while Keaton Poole (Spindale, N.C.) and Ezekiel Martin (Goldsboro, N.C.) each posted new personal records of 4:07.79 and 4:27.08, respectively, in the men's 1,500.
Mitchell turned in a sensational performance in the discus throw, surpassing her previous PR with four of her six throws en route to a personal best of 42.62 meters and a ninth-place finish. The sophomore thrower added another personal record in the shot put, finishing third with a mark of 14.09 meters - less than one-half meter shy of the school record.
White posted a monster PR in the discus throw, finishing second with a mark of 49.93 meters while placing sixth in the shot put with a toss of 15.34 meters. Jordan Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) and Marcus Abraham (Charlotte, N.C.) placed third and fifth, respectively, in the discus throw with marks of 48.38 and 45.90 meters.
Quentin Jones (Moore, S.C.) set a new personal best with a mark of 13.61 meters, as Amanda Hall (Moscow, Pa.) placed fourth in the javelin with a PR of 29.87 meters - nearly three meters further than her previous best. Merideth Byl (Tucson, Ariz.) finished seventh in the event with a mark of 28.71 meters.
Gardner-Webb is back in action next Saturday, April 30 at the Mountaineer Outdoor Open, hosted by Appalachian State, in Boone, N.C.
