BOILING SPRINGS, N.C – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team (6-12, 3-5) dropped a Big South Conference match to Charleston Southern (11-4, 6-2), by a score of 5-2, on Sunday afternoon.
The Runnin' Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead by claiming the doubles point, but could not find the same success in the singles portion of the match.
Rokia Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon teamed up to defeat Gabriela Srodowski and Kimberly Koerner 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, while the duo of Catherine White and Sarah
Rieckmann were victorious at the No. 3 slot over Valeria Koussenkova and Sophie Cloessner 7-5.
Sacko also found success in her singles match, being the lone winner for Gardner-Webb. She handed a three set loss to Luecke (6-4, 3-6, 10-6) at No. 1 singles.
Stina Magnusson forced three sets against Cloessner at the No. 2 spot but came up just short, falling (4-6, 7-5, 10-5).
Rieckmann battled tough with Srodowski at No. 4 singles, but eventually fell to her counterpart (6-4, 6-3). Sandra Bolstad, Laura Fermosel and White all lost in straight sets in their respective singles matches.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will hit the courts again Tuesday afternoon when they travel to UNC Asheville. The Big South match is set to begin at 2 p.m.
